MOST OF MY design work has been for editorial products (and of those, mostly magazines, both digital and paper), but I’ve also designed lots of other things: music album covers, mobile apps, books, a content management system, posters, illustrations, t-shirts, logos, typefaces, and I want to add “pants” because the word sounds funny to me, but I’ve yet to design any pants.
Anyway, I’m definitely one of those “form follows function” types of designing person, who thinks of design more as a problem solving and system building pursuit, rather than a “make things look pretty” pursuit. Some of us are insufferable, I know, but I hope that I am not.
Currently I'm a Design Director at a small creative agency called Dialect.

I HAVE MORE than 20 years of publishing experience and have developed award-winning publications both in print and online. I work on a wide range of projects, including developing articles and article series for Stanford Social Innovation Review and managing its international publishing partnerships. Previously, I was a writer and web consultant for the Redford Center, a social change nonprofit founded by Robert Redford, and the editorial director of Ideal Bite, an online media company for conscious consumers. I was also the founding magazine managing editor of Shojo Beat magazine and managing editor of MacAddict magazine. I was a WorldTeach volunteer in Poland through Harvard University’s Center for International Development and earned a Private Pilot License from the Sierra Academy of Aeronautics, and I have a bachelor's degree in English from the University of California at Santa Barbara, with studies abroad at the University of Leeds, UK.
